Position Overview And Responsibilities

The volunteer and CSO coordinator provides centralized support and administration of volunteer and CSO activities, provides guidance and leadership to parks, districts and CSOs in board operations, related nonprofit management issues and Division policy related to CSOs and volunteer management, and acts as liaison between the Division and district staff responsible for CSO oversight.

Volunteers and CSOs provide thousands of hours of staffing augmentation and vital fund-raising support to the 176 state parks, trails, and historic sites that make up the Florida State Park system. This role is vital to the success of the Division of Recreation and Parks in carrying out its mission to provide resource-based recreation while preserving, interpreting, and restoring natural and cultural resources.

This position is located in the Division of Recreation and Parks, Bureau of Operational Services. This position may supervise up to two OPS positions, each working up to 40 hours per week.

Primary Responsibilities

• Reviews and recommends to Division Management administrative policies, procedures, guidelines and related directives to be implemented concerning CSOs and volunteers.
• Conducts periodic management reviews of selected CSOs and their management practices.
• Collects data related to CSO management and volunteers including manpower augmentation report, CSO audits, management reviews and updated lists of CSO presidents. Provides analysis of data collected including recommendations to Division Management on the improvement of CSO operations and volunteer programs.
• Implements the planning of the Annual CSO Workshop and other statewide sponsored meetings and training courses.
• Assists in or implements the planning of events related to district and statewide volunteer recognition.
• Coordinates statewide Division and volunteer awards programs.
• Provides recommendations to Division Management on meetings, trainings, recognition events, and awards programs.
• Promotes the CSO and volunteer programs and provides recommendations and strategies to Division Management for maximizing CSO and volunteer involvement / recruitment.
• Ensures that all financial and purchasing records are up to date and files appropriate reports required by the bureau.
• Oversees the production and maintenance of the CSO and Volunteer Handbooks and other related manuals and materials.
• Performs additional related work as required.
