Job Overview
The Auditor I position is responsible for working with the Internal Auditor to ensure the Bank is meeting its objectives by auditing Bank policies, procedures, processes, internal controls, and financial records. This position, alongside the Internal Auditor position, operates independently of other Bank departments and is expected to exercise professional skepticism.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Internal Auditor in performing internal audits of Bank records and activities in accordance with the audit schedule, as well as other audits as requested.
- Gather extensive data and interview applicable associates; prepare workpapers, spreadsheets and summarize narratives for audit reports.
- Assist the Internal Auditor in conducting audits of all records, properties, securities, and accounting procedures related to the Bank activities when appropriate; assist with unscheduled branch cash counts.
- Investigate and determine the cause of exceptions, errors, and irregularities.
- Recommend corrective action and suggestions for improvement.
- Summarize findings and recommendations for audit reports.
- Organize and maintain audit work papers for each audit for use by management, Bank examiners and external auditors.
- Perform follow-up on reported findings and recommendations in an effort to ensure timely completion of the Bank's corrective action plan.
- Update Internal Auditor on the progress of audits being performed, reporting any major findings and recommendations during the course of the review.
- Maintain spreadsheet of all Bank general ledger and internal Bank accounts; verify reconciliations and review performed each quarter and follow-up with Bank associates as needed.
- Attend quarterly Audit Committee meetings and present applicable reports.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or related field is required.A minimum of 3-5 years of professional work experience as an Internal Auditor preferred, with flexibility, to substitute years of experience for educational requirements or related work experience.A thorough understanding of state and federal banking compliance regulationsStrong written and verbal skills for preparing audit reports and discussing findings with management.High level of problem-solving skills with the capability to recommend corrective actions and process improvements.Competence in using audit applications, spreadsheets, and core financial systems.
