Position Title : Elementary Spanish Immersion Teacher

Location : Calvary Christian Academy, Fort Lauderdale

Purpose Statement

The specific focus is to encourage the use of the Spanish language through quality instruction, to motivate continued study of languages, and to lay biblical foundations of how and why God uses different languages for His glory and His purpose.

Scope

This position guides students in classroom activities that motivate them to reach their learning potential. The teacher will use various methods to interact with students, faculty, parents, and staff at Calvary Christian Academy and Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale.

Responsibilities

• Model Christ in word and deed.
• Write lesson plans for all classes on a weekly basis according to Calvary Christian Academy guidelines.
• Establish and maintain communication with parents as specified by administrative policy.
• Read Calvary Christian Academy email / staff communications to remain informed and respond if requested upon arrival, midday, and before departure.
• Be available to address student questions, concerns, ministry, and counsel during lunch hours, before school, after school, or in between classes.
• Attend staff devotions one day per week.
• Attend Calvary Christian Academy staff meetings and Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale staff meetings.
• Participate in scheduled grade-level team meetings.
• Attend and participate in Back to School Night and other school events that promote relationship-building with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Participate in the accreditation process for the school's continuous improvement plan.
• Engage in professional development to stay current in the field.
• Adhere to specified professional dress.
• Participate in designated chapels.
• Open each class with prayer.
• Give specific praise and encouragement.
• Decorate classroom bulletin boards seasonally, scripturally, and quarterly.
• Maintain accurate records on each student.
• Prepare interims and report cards, maintaining ongoing grade records on NetClassroom.
• Integrate school-wide theme scriptures into the classroom.
• Teach through the Biblical Integration method.
• Discipline with love and establish incentives for improving behavior.
• Provide remediation or enrichment for students as necessary.
• Teach Spanish as a second language and the important aspects of Spanish culture.
• Observe and assess each student's ability.
• Serve as interpreter / document translator for teachers / administrators who need to communicate with parents who are Spanish speakers.
• Know the student dress code to ensure compliance with standards.
• Compile and maintain an up-to-date subfolder.
• Secure classrooms for use by the Children's Ministry and other ministries.
• Erase whiteboards at the end of each teaching day (good stewardship element).
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Qualifications, Skills, and Gifts

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 7 : 30 a.m.–3 : 30 p.m.

Full-time (40 hours / week). Employees may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a Calvary Christian Academy event or assist with a special project or emergency affecting the church facilities.
