Underwriting Consultant (Construction, Umbrella & Excess Casualty) role at CNA Insurance

Responsibilities
- Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines on highly complex underwriting risks.
- Uses diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess risk acceptability and develops specialized endorsement language for highly complex risks.
- Determines appropriate pricing for complex risks based on financial and competitive analysis, compliant with policy requirements and with minimal supervision.
- Makes recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy.
- Analyzes quality, quantity, and profitability of highly complex risks; prepares and presents reports to management.
- Markets products and services through agencies or brokerage networks and conducts field visits.
- Develops and maintains agency / broker relationships with large producers to achieve positive and profitable outcomes on complex, high-risk business.
- Keeps current on state / territory issues, regulations, industry activity and trends; may participate in industry trade groups.
- Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters and assists in underwriting training.
- Utilizes advanced CNA systems for day-to-day activities and handles special underwriting projects and presentations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional designations preferred.Typically a minimum of eight years underwriting experience.Advanced technical underwriting expertise and knowledge of insurance principles, practices and procedures.Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills; ability to interact with internal and external partners.Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple projects and work in ambiguous situations.Creativity in resolving complex business problems; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and related software.Demonstrated leadership abilities.In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of compensation for this role. For the District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range is $72,000 to $141,000 annually.
