A Brief Overview
This position will support the UH Specialty Labs which collect and process from PAT, Transplant, SCC, Employee Health and Research patients
Acts in a supportive role to the managers as well as the Director. Coordinates and directs the activities of all the daily pre analytical and post analytical operations.
What You Will Do
- Oversees and supervises the daily operations of Specimen Processing, Specimen Collection, and Accessioning, under the technical supervision of the Manager to provide high quality, cost effective patient care with a competent staff including hiring, firing, and performance oversight.
- Coach and mentor staff including but not limited to providing guidance and feedback to ensure highest level of patient experience.
- Ensures clean compliant order processing in compliance with regulatory agencies by following established standards.
- Accurate, timely, and efficient specimen management including receipt, preparation / organizing, labeling, delivery, and documentation within CLIA defined pre-analytic and post-analytic phases of testing.
- Provides coverage to front-line operations to maintain business continuity.

Education
Associate's Degree in a healthcare related field (Required) andAssociate Medical Laboratory Technician (Preferred) orBachelor's Degree in or Medical Laboratory Science (Preferred)Work Experience
3+ years In a highly complex medical laboratory. (Required) andPrevious experience as supervisor / coordinator is (Preferred)Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of testing procedures and quality standards. (Required proficiency)Understanding and application of CPT, ICD, and HCPCS coding appropriateness to process clean compliant orders. (Required proficiency)Advanced knowledge of medical / laboratory terminology. (Required proficiency)Extensive knowledge of laboratory operations to include customer service, specimen collection, accessioning, and processing. Appropriate technical and clinical expertise. (Required proficiency)Strong computer skills in laboratory and hospital information systems. (Required proficiency)Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
