Job description

Pharmacy Tech

We’re looking for a Certified Pharmacy Technician to assist in the technical functions of pharmacy practice under the supervision of an Iowa-licensed pharmacist. In this role, you’ll ensure accuracy and precision in medication handling, perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, stocking shelves, and operating the cash register, all while adhering to established policies, procedures, and federal regulations. Education and Experience Requirements

EDUCATION : Required :

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred :

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS :

Required :

Certified Pharmacy Technician within 1 year of hire

Technician Product Verification (TPV) Certification within 1 year of eligibility

Valid Drivers License

Preferred :

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :

Required :

Good computer and communication skills

Ability to work well with others

Basic algebra knowledge

Preferred :

Associates Degree in Business or health care related field

Essential Job Functions

Assists pharmacist in specific dispensing functions as authorized by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.

Receiving and interpreting medication orders

Fills and labels medications from physician orders that are not stocked in the AMDS (automated medication dispensing system).

Serves as courier for delivery and pickup of patient medications and physician orders from nursing units.

Prepared medication for the AMDS refill lists for pharmacist approval and assists in the stocking of the AMDS.

Packages bulk oral medications into unit dosages utilizing a pre-packaging machine.

Assumes specific inventory responsibilities.

Assists Pharmacy Tech buyer in monitoring inventory as needed.

Verifies drug orders versus invoices. Stickers and shelves incoming drug supplies.

Communicates with drug wholesalers concerning incorrect invoices, drug shortages and recalls.

Assists pharmacist in specific compounding functions.

Practice aseptic technique in reconstitution and preparation of parenteral admixtures, non-hazardous and hazardous preparations.

Has good understanding of and ability to use Cleanroom Suites and able to properly clean rooms.

Perform proper labeling and record keeping of compounded products.

Performs and passes an annual media fill testing of sterile technique and participates in annual review of sterile compounding education.

Demonstrates knowledge or rules and accountability for Controlled Substance medications including but not limited to dispensing, record keeping and inventory

Demonstrates operational knowledge of pharmacy / office equipment.

Demonstrates knowledge of entire AMDS system including ability to handle support calls for the equipment and software.

Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacy math calculations and compounding processes.

Provides support and back-up coverage for services in the Cass Health retail pharmacy.

Completes continuing education for pharmacy technician certification as required by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.

Perform other duties as assigned by Pharmacist-in-charge.

Assists in monthly inspections of medication storage areas throughout the hospital including but not limited to outdated medications, improperly labeled medications, recalls, etc. This shall include proper documentation for each medication storage area.

Assesses the pharmacy physical environment and reports needed repairs to the maintenance department. Assists in keeping physical environment organized and clean.

Routinely answers, screens and forwards telephone calls.

Performs special projects as assigned by the pharmacist-in-charge.
