Overview
Muskegon Community College, an associate degree-granting institution of higher education, seeks qualified candidates for Adjunct Instructors. The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants who are interested in teaching in the future as a part-time adjunct instructor for one of our departments. The pools are always open for applications, but this does not guarantee an immediate opening. Department chairs review approved applicants when a part-time instructional need arises and may contact suitable candidates to schedule an interview.

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Teach assigned courses which may include day, night, and online formats, at the main campus and extension centers. Classes must meet on time for the full allotted time.
- Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes documented student learning.
- Prepare, submit, and maintain reports related to student learning.
- Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote student growth, return graded work promptly, and assign final grades by institutional deadlines.
- Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled office hours or by appointment.
- Encourage student feedback via surveys and review results to inform strategies to increase student success.
- Maintain professional knowledge and comply with required training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in the discipline or 18 credits in the specific discipline. College-level teaching experience is preferred.Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.Ability to work with diverse populations with varying abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures. Experience with instructional technology is preferred.Commitment to student recruitment, retention, success, assessment of learning, curriculum development, and use of various instructional delivery modalities.Willingness to work a varied schedule and a commitment to the community college concept.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to access and use electronic resources including email, the Internet, and the college’s integrated database system.Work Environment and Physical Demands
Normal office environment with travel to all campus locations required.Mental demands include detailed work, deadlines, multiple priorities, and confidentiality.Physical demands include sitting, carrying, talking or hearing, and vision requirements; ability to adjust and focus as needed.Work Schedule
