- Position Summary
The
- Water / Wastewater Supervisor
- is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and compliance of the City of Hillsboro's municipal water and wastewater systems, including sewer and storm water. This position supervises a team of field operators and contractors, coordinates system operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and plays a direct role in ensuring the delivery of clean, safe drinking water and effective wastewater management.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and possesses strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise daily operations of water and wastewater systems, including distribution, collection, and treatment
- Provide direction, support, and training to field operators; monitor performance and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards
- Coordinate work schedules, on-call rotations, and emergency response
- Act as the primary liaison with city officials, vendors, and regulatory agencies
- Lead safety meetings and implement preventative maintenance and safety programs
- Operations & Oversight
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of pumps, valves, motors, instrumentation, and treatment systems
- Review SCADA data and coordinate with operators to ensure system stability and respond to alarms
- Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues and delegate or escalate as needed
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting, including water quality sampling, compliance records, and equipment logs
- Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all activities comply with North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and EPA regulations
- Prepare for and support regulatory inspections and audits
- Assist in budget preparation, procurement, and tracking of maintenance and capital improvement projects
- Qualifications
- Required :
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must obtain required North Dakota water / wastewater certification needed
- Valid North Dakota driver's license
- 3+ years of experience in water / wastewater systems, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role
- Strong mechanical and operational knowledge of water / wastewater treatment processes
- Ability to lift 50100 pounds and work in field environments
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and SCADA systems
- Familiarity with interpreting blueprints, technical documents, and regulations
- Preferred :
- Vocational training in mechanical trades, utilities, or public works
- Advanced certification in water / wastewater operations
- Experience in municipal government or public utility systems
Job Type : Full-time
Pay : $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours : 40 per week
