Job description

Certified Medical Assistant

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant to support our Pre-operative, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurses and surgical team in the Operating Room (OR). This position plays a key role in maintaining smooth clinical workflows by assisting with patient care, preparing surgical environments, and supporting the nursing and surgical staff before, during, and after procedures.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist with pre-operative preparation, testing, and documentation.
  • Support OR teams by preparing rooms, gathering necessary instruments and supplies, and ensuring surgical areas are clean and stocked.
  • Transport patients safely to and from pre-op, OR, and PACU.
  • Assist PACU nurses with patient monitoring, comfort, and post-operative care.
  • Provide clerical support such as documenting patient vitals, updating charts, and assisting with supply ordering.
  • Monitor inventory of medical supplies and assist in restocking as needed.
  • Clean and disinfect non-sterile equipment and work areas according to infection control standards.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between nursing staff, surgeons, and other departments as directed.
  • Assist with dressing changes, positioning patients, and other delegated clinical tasks within scope of certification.
  • Provide patient-centered care in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Must be able to lift / carry 50lbs.
  • Assist SPD with routine cleaning and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
  • Oversee and ensure equipment safety compliance
  • Conduct and uphold routine equipment safety inspections

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant training program.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (CMA) Required.
  • Current BLS certification is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a surgical or outpatient surgery center setting is strongly preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities :

  • Strong understanding of aseptic technique and patient safety protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a clinical setting.
  • Professional demeanor and strong attention to detail.
