Perfusionist Position Summary: Responsible for the set-up and operation of the heart-lung machine to assume the functions of patient organs during surgery.
Responsibilities: - Responsible for the set-up and operation of the heart-lung machine to assume the functions of patient organs during surgery
- Operates extracorporeal circulation and auto transfusion equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace the patient's circulatory or respiratory function
- Supports the physiological and metabolic needs of the cardiac surgical patient so that the cardiac surgeon may operate
- Responsible for the circulatory and respiratory functions of the heart-lung machine
- Participates in procurement of cardiothoracic donor organs for transplant
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications: - Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular perfusion training program required
- Bachelor's degree in perfusion technology preferred
- Minimum of 3 years' perfusion experience
- Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
- BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation
Working Conditions: - Must be able to maintain a standing and position
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job
- Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
- Must be able to lift or move up to 35 lbs
