Responsibilities Work in a hospital Medical-Surgical / Oncology unit caring for primarily medical-surgical patients with oncology history Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 6, with potential for higher ratios during high census periods Locals are accepted at a different rate Night shifts (4x12 hours, 18 : 45-07 : 15) with every other weekend required Floating required to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift Chemotherapy / biotherapy administration (IV, PO, injection) may be required Uses Epic EMR, SBAR for communication, and Pyxis for medication administration 24 hours (2 shifts) of unit orientation provided Navy blue and white scrubs required Expect to manage a diverse population with diagnoses including AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, OD, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, failure to thrive, diabetic foot ulcers, and patients receiving heparin drips Attendance required at monthly staff meetings Contract staff may be assigned to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or natural disasters as part of the Storm Team or Hurricane Team Make-up shifts are required if called off on a prescheduled shift Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during assignment; no RTO accepted on holidays Travel pairs are allowed but must work on different units First-time travelers are welcome to apply Requirements Active NC or compact RN license required at start; pending license accepted for consideration Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient Med / Surg experience required Current BLS certification required Competency in colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, PICC management, heparin and insulin administration, management of surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson / Pleur-evac), nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care (including wound vacs) Epic EMR experience required Must pass EKG testing prior to start Charge nurse experience, CPI, and OCN certification preferred Travelers who were previous PERM / PRN / EP staff at the health system must have a 12-month gap before applying as a traveler Current travel Per Diem clinicians at the health system are not eligible for a travel contract Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed and none permitted during first week Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-628969.
