We are seeking a driven and client-focused Mechanical Sales Engineer / Estimator to support our growing mechanical retrofit and replacement business. This role bridges the gap between technical expertise and client engagement, ensuring that we deliver cost-effective, innovative solutions that exceed expectations. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering knowledge with excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to evolving estimating tools and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed ASHRAE RTS / CLTD heat loss / gain calculations, equipment selections, and duct / piping system designs specifically for retrofit and replacement projects
- Create accurate proposals and estimates that help secure work while meeting client needs and budget constraints
- Perform jobsite surveys of existing facilities to gather accurate field data, generate as-builts, and identify system upgrade opportunities
- Perform mechanical takeoffs on engineered plans for new mechanical projects
- Collaborate with internal departments (HVAC, Electrical, Controls, Plumbing) and subcontractors to design practical, cost-efficient solutions
- Communicate regularly with clients to clarify project scope, present recommendations, and address concerns quickly and professionally
- Provide clear, competitive estimates with labor hour projections and material take-offs to support sales goals
- Participate in proposal reviews, pre-construction meetings, and kickoff meetings to ensure alignment with project objectives
- Review and select equipment vendors and subcontractors to achieve best value for the client and company
- Develop control system sequences of operation and points lists for BAS and retrofit projects
- Support field teams with constructability reviews and resolve issues that arise during installation
- Review and approve test and balance and commissioning reports, ensuring systems perform as designed
- Remain adaptable to new and existing estimating software and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy in pricing and proposals
Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent HVAC mechanical estimating experienceProven ability to scope and price mechanical retrofit and replacement projectsSkilled at performing heat load calculations (Trane Trace 3D), designing hydronic piping and duct systems (HVAC Solution Pro), sizing refrigerant piping, and creating mechanical drawings (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio)Strong math and analytical skills for estimating, take-offs, and pricing accuracyField experience including site surveys, equipment assessments, and troubleshootingFamiliarity with HVAC software, energy compliance codes, and engineering calculationsKnowledge of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection codes and standardsProficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD software, and estimating platformsAbility to learn and implement new estimating tools quickly to stay ahead of industry trendsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present solutions and build strong client relationshipsValid Texas driver’s license
