Gulf Shores Zoning Inspector
Under immediate supervision of the Director of Planning & Zoning performs technical tasks of property maintenance and inspections to enforce the Code of Ordinances, Zoning Ordinance, Building Regulations, and Business License Codes of the City. Work requires employee to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, the general public, city officials and departments, and to deal tactfully and diplomatically in adverse situations. Work is subject to varying posts and job assignments and requires a flexible work schedule including weekends, holidays, and special events as determined by job duties.
Responsible for receiving and acting on complaints and patrolling the City for violations of the City of Gulf Shores Zoning Ordinance, Code of Ordinances, and Building Code, Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations, including performing investigations, writing letters, issuing citations, and making court appearances to provide witness testimony as needed. Create and process legible hand written and computer base reports. Maintains up to date records / databases for all work conducted. Produces periodic reports, forms, documents and correspondence to gain compliance. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Educates the public of the current codes of ordinances, zoning, building ordinances, rules and regulation established by the city. Receives, reviews, processes and issues all sign permits. Assist with reviewing and processing Business Licenses for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance. Performs research, attends classes, conferences, meetings and certification programs to maintain certifications and knowledge for job related duties.
Education and Experience : Associate level degree in planning, engineering, property management, law enforcement, public administration or a related field with a Bachelor's level degree desirable; and three to four years of experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Licenses and Certifications : Valid Driver's License
Proactively monitors and pursues zoning and code enforcement violations within the City of Gulf Shores. Prepares or completes various forms, letters, citations, reports, correspondence, or other documents. Performs other related duties as assigned.
