General Information
Minimum Experience : 1 year (experience may include a mix of ED and Med / Surg)
First-Time Travelers : Considered based on interview and overall fit
Traveler Distance Rule : Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility
Return Policy : Former permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
Patient Population
Types : Medical Surgical, Intermediate Level, and Outpatient Infusions
Common Diagnoses : Stroke, Myocardial Infarction (MI), Trauma, and general medical conditions
Patient Ratios
Medical Surgical : 1 : 4–6
Required Certifications
RNs : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, CPI (preferred)
CNAs : BLS and active CNA certification
Required Education
RNs : Completion of an approved nursing education program; active South Dakota RN License (Board of Nursing-approved)
Skills & Experience
Inpatient Medical Surgical care experience
Familiarity with a team nursing approach (collaboration with RT and Imaging)
Unit Support
CNA Coverage : 1–2 techs per 6–12 patients
Charge Nurse : One charge covering Med / Surg, ED, and Outpatient areas 24 / 7
Phlebotomy : Available during business hours; on-call coverage after hours
IV / VAT Team : Charge nurse acts as resource
Respiratory Therapy : On-site Monday–Friday, 7 AM–3 PM (no call)
Hospitalist : None on site
Charting System
EHR : EPIC
Monitoring : Space Lab
Floating
Within and below scope of practice
Orientation
Day 1 : Facility and unit orientation, meeting with manager, and online EPIC / iLearn training
Clinical Orientation : One precepted shift on the unit
Scheduling
Shifts : Rotating schedule with self-scheduling flexibility
Weekends : Rotational basis; no fixed weekends
Call : None required
Holidays : Assigned as needed
RTO Approval : Must be approved prior to contract start
Weather Policy – “Condition Snow”
If a weather-related emergency occurs during a scheduled shift, caregivers are expected to remain on-site and will be compensated for all hours incurred (including sleep time). When advance notice is given, caregivers may be asked to report early for their shift.
