Medical Director | Raleigh Oaks Behavioral Health | Garner, North Carolina

The Medical Director is responsible for leadership, quality assurance, oversight and overall medical management of the hospital within the boundaries of state and federal regulations and accreditation standards. Responsibilities include planning, organizing medical and clinical practices, medical staff supervision, providing direct patient care and assisting other departments with direct interactions with physicians or medical staff.

Essential Functions :

  • Oversees and is responsible for the quality, efficiency, and management of delivering medical services within the facility.
  • Provides onsite clinical services to patients at the facility within medical protocols defined by federal and state regulations, as well as by corporate, facility policy or procedures. Treats or directs treatment of patients, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
  • Defines protocols and assists in decision making pertaining to the medical care of patients that is consistent with current medical practice and facility policies and procedures.
  • Provides oversight and supervision to other professional medical staff, as well as guidance to administrative or support staff, as designated. Directs services and information in a timely manner, maintaining appropriate confidential documentation, compliance, and billing in accordance with the policies and procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients, to include appropriate reaction and de-escalation techniques.
  • Oversees compliance regarding the appropriate medical management of patients, clinical programming, documentation, and ethical issues to ensure that all services are provided in a safe and effective manner.
  • Serves as a liaison between the medical staff, other clinic staff, division or corporate staff, and organizational leadership.
  • Monitors assigned staff to adherence to established medical and facility policies and procedures.
  • Provides back up call coverage.
  • Serves in a teaching capacity for the training and development of other staff.
  • Evaluates and diagnoses patients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Secures physical exam and history from the patient, reviews medical records, makes medical evaluations based on observations of symptoms and behavior patterns, assessment and records, requests appropriate diagnostic testing, prescribes medications and treatments.
  • Follows a model of care that supports health and wellness of patients.
  • Assists in the management of behavioral or mental health problems of patients, maintains current medical records in accordance with federal or state regulation, and facility policies and procedures.
  • On call rotation.
  • Exercises prompt and appropriate judgment when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or potentially dangerous situations.

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements :

  • Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD or DO) supplemented by the completion of psychiatric residency training required.
  • One or more years' post graduate degree practice preferred.
  • Previous experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment preferred.
  • Licenses / Designations / Certifications :

  • Current license to practice medicine, by the state in which the facility(s) operate.
  • Board certification or certificate of admissibility for board certification in a behavioral health specialty.
  • Current DEA credentials to prescribe controlled substances without restrictions and per regulation within the state in which the practitioner will be working.
  • CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
  • Supervisory Requirements :

    Previous supervisory experience preferred.
