Plant Supervisor 1
This is an open competitive recruitment to create an eligibility list for current vacancy and for future vacancies. Successful candidates are expected to work eight (8) hours a day, five (5) days a week, and twelve (12) months per school year.
General purpose : Under direction, plans, supervises, evaluates, and participates in the work of custodial personnel at an assigned elementary school or small school site or facility, as defined by the district; ensures the assigned school site is maintained in a neat, clean, sanitary, and safe condition; arranges and assists in arrangements of physical environment required for activities held at the school; and performs related duties as assigned.
Distinguishing characteristics : Incumbents in the Plant Supervisor 1 class are responsible for coordinating, performing, scheduling, and supervising custodial functions at an elementary school or small site or facility, as defined by the District. Incumbents perform a variety of custodial and minor maintenance duties during school hours and schedule and inspect the work of the custodial crew.

Minimum qualifications : Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial, grounds keeping, and general maintenance work. Requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Principles and practices of supervision and training. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Safe practices related to cleaning methods and procedures. Basic recordkeeping techniques and basic computer operations. School security requirements.
Ability to plan, schedule, and oversee custodial activities at an assigned facility. Estimate and order required custodial supplies and equipment. Confer with site administrators and supervisors regarding custodial needs, schedules, and concerns. Observe and report safety hazards and the need for maintenance and repair. Perform minor repairs to physical facilities. Train and evaluate personnel. Meet schedules and time lines. Communicate effectively. Estimate time and materials involved with the custodial program. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Lift heavy objects and perform heavy physical labor. Instruct others in the use of modern cleaning equipment. Work independently with little direction. Read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Operate a variety of related machines, computer, and equipment.
Education, training, and experience : Graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or higher graduation, and; Two (2) years of custodial experience in a school or related environment, which includes six (6) months of lead or supervisory experience in similar capacity.
Physical and mental demands : Lift, carry, push, pull, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, walk, run, and crawl. Perform moderate to heavy physical exertion. Lift 50 pounds. Carry 25 pounds. Techniques to safely handle objects weighing up to 100 lbs, in teams or using specialized equipment. Reach in all directions. Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time. Work at indoor and outdoor environment, with possible dry, cold, and wet weather. Work at a desk, conference table, playgrounds or in meetings of various configurations.
