Job Description
The Environmental Technician maintains and services the etchant rejuvenation and waste water treatment systems, prevents environmental problems within company policies, procedures and the federal, state and local environmental laws by performing the following duties.
Job Summary
- Follow all safety rules, including Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures and Confined-Space Entry procedures. Process all industrial water prior to release to sewer
- Operate filter Press to remove solids from wastewater
- Inspect transporter vehicles prior to shipping hazardous waste
- Dry filter cake from filter press
- Process aluminum trihydrate from caustic rejuvenation system
- Operate the drum filter for the Type II caustic rejuvenation
- Service all pumps associated with the caustic rejuvenation system
- Service the wastewater fume scrubber
- Transfer etchant from process tanks
- Inventory control for materials necessary for wastewater treatment and etchant / deox chemicals.
- Analyze caustic enchant, N-1 and N-2 Titration test
- Comply with D.O.T. regulations in handling hazardous waste shipments
- Collect and store used shop wipes according to hazardous waste procedures
- Process empty paint containers
- Accurately add chemicals to process tank as directed
- Complete Maintenance Work log / records
- Conduct leak detection inspections
- Clean Process tanks using confined space procedures
- Run and repair PVC chemical pipe
- Run and repair steel and stainless steel chemicals pipe
- Conduct environmental inspections
- Inspect and repair all emergency eye wash stations and showers
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills & Qualifications :
Ability to read and interpret documents such as MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), D.O.T. Regulations, Chemical Container labels and equipment gauges.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence such as daily work logs and records.Ability to effectively communicate among all levels within the organization.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.High School level chemistry.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations, such as evaluating and implement a response to a chemical spill and to consider various priorities such as human, environmental and equipment safety.Understanding and application of total rewards laws and legislation.Required Experience / Education :
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)HAZWOPPERConfined Space & EntryForklift, Scissor and Boom Lift drivingLicenses, Certifications :
24 hour HAZWOPPER certificationCPR & First Aid training certificationsOther Considerations :
Candidate should have background in wastewater treatmentPlumbing, machinery, knowledge of blueprints, electric / manual hand tool knowledge, and / or maintenance experience is also strongly considered.$18.00 minimal to minor experience, $19.00 with some experience or some knowledgePay Range : $18.00 - $19.00 (hourly estimate)
2nd Shift will receive 10% shift differential
