Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

The Director of Nursing for Labor and Delivery (L&D) is a visionary and strategic nursing leader responsible for the overall operational clinical and administrative management of the Labor and Delivery unit. This role encompasses ensuring the delivery of high-quality safe and patient-centered maternal and newborn care fostering a culture of excellence and optimizing unit performance. The Director of L&D is a champion for clinical best practices staff development patient satisfaction and financial stewardship within the L&D department.

Essential Functions :

Clinical Leadership & Quality Assurance :

• Patient Care Excellence : Ensures the provision of compassionate evidence-based and patient-centered care for laboring mothers newborns and their families.
• Clinical Standards : Establishes implements and monitors adherence to professional nursing standards organizational policies and regulatory requirements (e.g. AWHONN Joint Commission state health departments).
• Quality Improvement : Leads and participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives including identifying areas for improvement developing action plans and monitoring outcomes related to patient safety clinical efficacy and satisfaction.
• Risk Management : Proactively identifies and mitigates risks within the L&D unit ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff. Investigates and responds to patient safety events and complaints.
