Job description

Park Operator III

Join our team as a Park Operator III! Very responsible supervisory work in management and supervision of park maintenance / operations at multiple park sites and / or multipurpose District Park / Recreation Complex focusing on active recreational pursuits.

Assists with the selection of and training, directing, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating full-time and part-time staff, contractors and volunteers handling maintenance and operational responsibilities. May assume additional responsibilities if the Parks Operations Supervisor is unavailable. Responsible for the maintenance of ten (10) or more fields and tourism events.

Interacts with the public providing and receiving information, explaining and enforcing rules and regulations, recording and monitoring reservations, and handling public requests and complaints. Oversees the operation and maintenance of all park facilities, including athletic fields, outdoor courts, buildings including restrooms, gymnasium, aquatic facilities, picnic areas and shelters, playgrounds, trails, parking lots and roadways hauling equipment. Schedules and coordinates work with outside crews, vendors and other departments or agencies. Operates and supervises the operation and maintenance of all equipment, including tractors, utility vehicles, utility lifts, field stripers, mowers, scrubbers, buffers and pickup trucks. Performs weekly irrigation and active field inspections. Completes regularly scheduled inspections of all park areas and facilities to ensure high standards are maintained and to ensure public safety. Keeps records and reports on problems and / or concerns regarding operations and conditions of facilities or programs. Issues verbal and written instructions to correct problems and follows up on work requests. Actively participates in professional development and initiates suggested changes and new programs. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all. Assists with preparation, evaluation and implementation of annual program budget. Prepares specifications and initiates requisitions to get supplies and contract out special projects.

Assists the Parks Operations Supervisors with administrative responsibilities. Assists with records, reports, schedules, payroll, interviewing, training, evaluations, purchasing, budget development, public relations, development and administration of policies and other related tasks. Assists with and performs related work as required.

Knowledge of best practices for active field maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the operational and maintenance requirements of typical park sites and / or District Park / Recreation Complex facilities, amenities and assigned equipment. Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques required for park maintenance and management. Knowledge of public and employee safety practices and precautions. Knowledge of budgeting and purchasing procedures. Possesses basic computer knowledge. Ability to plan, organize, direct, and supervise the work of staff, volunteers and others to accomplish required tasks and handle responsibilities using both oral and written skills. Ability to deal with the public (all ages) tactfully and effectively in both written and verbal form, providing information, handling complaints, and enforcing regulations. Ability to understand, interpret and implement, sometimes complex, verbal and written policies, procedures, and instructions. Skilled in public service problem resolution. Knowledge of swimming pool operations and maintenance. Ability to lift and / or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Must complete leadership and communication courses through NeoGov.

Physical skills / working conditions : Ability to lift and / or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and / or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, climb, and walk. Ability to operate equipment and use hand tools. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. May require weekend, night, and holiday work. Education, training and experience : Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree with major coursework in Parks and Recreation, athletic turf care or related field and four (4) years' experience in park maintenance and management OR a high school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency and six (6) years' experience. Two (2) years' in a supervisory position including a strong background and responsible experience in grounds and facility maintenance, athletic turf care, personnel management, and public relations. Formal education and degree in Sports Turf Management preferred.

Licenses, certifications or registrations : Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM) preferred. Professional Parks and Recreation Certification preferred.
