Job Summary

Under general supervision, independently develop, implement and manage two complex and comprehensive graduate groups-Geography and Community Development, including CDGG internships as well as the Graduate Academic Certificate in Landscape Architecture. Responsible for coordinating outreach and recruitment activities, planning and hosting events, and performing articulation for GGG and CDGG course requirements. Coordinate the design and update of GGG and CDGG web pages. Maintain alumni databases, relationships and communication. Manage two separate graduate group budgets including all block grants, fellowships, awards, student employment and work-study funds. Assist graduate group advisors with student employment matters. Independently advise applicants, students and faculty of program requirements, curriculum planning, policies, resources, and financial aid for both programs. Counsel students on personal and academic issues impacting performance, time to degree, and future career options for both programs. Perform analytical writing for GGG and CDGG program reviews including synthesizing statistics and information on student performance, funding, faculty involvement, alumni placement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience advising and counseling graduate program students in a college / university environment while maintaining confidentiality of student records and apply federal and state FERPA and Information Privacy Act regulations and using a variety of computer software including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, database, e-mail, and web browsers.
  • Knowledge of graduate degree requirements, advising systems, and admissions criteria to prepare major certifications, develop academic plans, guide graduate students, and evaluate transfer credit and articulation agreements.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, communication, and analytical skills to effectively interact with diverse individuals, deliver presentations, and interpret, evaluate, and solve a variety of data, policy, and program-related issues.
  • Analytical and writing skills to interpret complex graduate policies and credentials, evaluate domestic and international academic records, and draft, edit, and proofread correspondence, reports, and informational materials.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities under pressure, resolve challenging situations, identify problems and needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop effective solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of BANNER, SLATE Graduate Student Location Inventory (GSI), GradHub, Internal Fellowship Nomination Manager, and other web-based tools, department academic goals and programs, requirements, and educational options; options / specializations offered in the graduate groups; and faculty research interests.
  • Knowledge of general objectives and policies of the unit and campus concerning various graduate programs, and non-traditional and international constituencies and familiarity with academic and social problems confronting students from diverse backgrounds college settings.

  • Department Overview

    With minimal supervision, this position independently manages and coordinates all administrative aspects of the Geography Grad Group and the Community Development Grad Program within the department of Human Ecology. Provides confidential administrative support to the GGG and CD Chairs, HE Chair and CAO. Also serves as the primary liaison between the programs and Graduate Studies. There are ~70 Geography and ~45 Community Development grad students in the programs.
