Maintenance Worker
Qualifications :
- Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Possess certification in one of the major trades such as electrical, plumbing, industrial maintenance, HVAC, etc.
- Possess general skills in all of the above mentioned areas
- Be highly adaptable and willing to work during nights and holidays
- Possess a desire to show initiative and willingness to learn
- Possess or obtain a Class "B" CDL with "P" and "S" Endorsements
- Possess or obtain a valid Alabama School Bus Driver Certificate
- Possess and maintain a DOT medical certificate
- Satisfactory background investigation and TB test
- Pass a pre-employment drug / alcohol test and participate in the system's random drug / alcohol testing program
- Such alternatives and / or exceptions to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Physical Requirements :
This position typically requires some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and other repetitive motions. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force will frequently occur. Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, poor lighting, and other work place restrictions.Reports To :

Performance Responsibilities :
Maintain base level certifications at own expense. Be willing to gain additional levels of appropriate certification at employer expenseFollows directions and instructions from supervisors in a timely mannerAccurately maintain daily, monthly, and yearly reports and repair / maintenance recordsAssist supervisors or Director of Operations in creating work schedulesCarry out duties and tasks as assignedStay abreast of new developments in the areas of equipment, standards, specifications, and service techniquesRespond to breakdowns and emergencies en-route to and from the shop and after-duty hoursServe in "on-call" capacity during holiday breaksPromote high standards of safety and good housekeeping for the schools, vehicles, shops, and groundsAdopt and promote the concept of preventative maintenanceAssists in the preparation and submission of purchase orders for parts and equipment to the Director of Operations to ensure budget limitations are not exceededMaintain inventory of repair parts and maintenance suppliesMaintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of informationPossess and use skills associated with repair or replacement of various items in relation to the subsystems of the school plant such as carpentry, flooring, roofing, electrical, plumbing, industrial maintenance, painting, HVAC, etc.Possess and use skills associated with the use of hand tools, various gauges, special tools, and computer softwarePossess and use skills associated with gas and electrical welding techniquesPerform outside activities such as landscape and lawn maintenanceStrictly adhere to guidelines concerning an eight hour work day (ie : reporting to work on time, leaving and returning to shop promptly, not overextending lunch break)Drive a school bus when neededPerforms other duties as may be assigned by superiorsTerms of Employment :
Twelve (12) month contract in accordance with the approved salary schedule for maintenance workers
Evaluation :
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board regarding the evaluation of support personnel.
