Overview

We are seeking a PhD-trained healthcare professional with strong project management and business development skills to serve as Project Manager for an NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant. This project focuses on senior care, hospital discharge planning, healthcare quality metrics, and long-term care outcomes.

The Project Director will lead day-to-day operations, oversee compliance with NIH requirements, and drive the translation of research into real-world, scalable solutions. The ideal candidate brings a balance of research rigor, healthcare expertise, and entrepreneurial mindset to ensure both successful grant execution and long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the NIH SBIR project and grant operations, including timelines, budgets, deliverables, and reporting.
  • Lead research activities and ensure compliance with NIH, IRB, and data security standards. Prepare NIH progress reports, financials, and regulatory submissions.
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and dissemination through publications, presentations, and stakeholder reports.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and product developers to align outputs with healthcare quality standards.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in hospital discharge, senior care models, and quality measurement.
  • Drive business development and commercialization efforts, including :

o Identifying and cultivating partnerships with hospitals, payers & long-term care organizations.

o Supporting Phase II / III SBIR proposals, revenue model design, and scaling strategies.

o Representing the project at industry conferences and with potential funders or partners.

Qualifications

  • PhD in public health, health services research, healthcare administration, nursing, health informatics, or related field.
  • 5+ years managing NIH or federally funded healthcare projects.
  • Expertise in hospital discharge processes, senior care, and long-term care quality improvement.
  • Experience with business development, commercialization, or healthcare innovation partnerships.
  • Record of scholarly contributions (publications, presentations) and applied healthcare innovation.
  • Highly organized and skilled in project management. Strong leadership, communication, and grant management skills including grant writing and reporting.
  • Strong leadership, communication abilities, team management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with healthcare reimbursement, venture development, or SBIR commercialization strategy (preferred).

  • This is a grant-funded role with potential for continuation based on SBIR Phase II / III success.
