POSITION : Technician

SEASON : Winter 2025 (Feb 2025 - Oct 2025)

LOCATION : McMurdo Station, Antarctica

SECTOR / DEPT : Six Mile, LLC Antarctica

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Responsible for the safe and technically proficient operation of equipment such as; articulating loaders, graders, fork-lifts, tracked agricultural tractors, dump-trucks, excavators, etc.

Performs daily equipment checks to ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in safe operating condition.

Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.

Performs physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of tall vehicles and heavy equipment, crawling as needed, working outdoors in extreme cold, and walking long distances daily. Snow shoveling, ice-chipping, and other forms of manual labor required.

Accurately records time worked and equipment hours used daily in Maximo.

Performs other duties as required.

Reports to Manager, Solid Waste.

REQUIREMENTS

Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.

Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.

Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.

Must participate in community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.

A prerequisite of employment for this position is to successfully gain a favorable Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment. Candidates hired for this position will be required to complete; online forms, written forms, fingerprint cards and provide additional details and information as requested by NSF Personnel Security.

PREFERRED

Familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred.

Prior cold-climate equipment operations preferred.

EDUCATION : High school graduate or equivalent is strongly preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND / OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS : Valid Driver's license required. Class A or B CDL preferred.

OTHER : US citizenship or permanent residency required.
