Assistant Principal - School for the Blind
The assistant principal acts as primary support for the principal with respect to teacher supervision and evaluation, scheduling, and daily coverage needs, as well as assists students in establishing high standards of conduct by overseeing student discipline, behavior support, and attendance. This position reports directly to the Principal of the School for the Blind for grades K-12.
Job functions include supervising and evaluating teachers and other staff, assisting the principal in instructional coaching, training, monitoring, and supporting Tier I and Tier II MTSS behavior expectations, collaborating with student support staff, overseeing student discipline and support, resolving discipline problems, investigating student complaints and grievances, assisting the principal in building systems for restorative practices, supervising students, supporting student behaviors and disciplinary action, overseeing student attendance, working with the student life director, serving as a member of multiple professional learning communities and committees, participating in professional development, promoting strong relations and partnerships, and performing other appropriate duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in education or school counseling, appropriate principal licensure in the state of Colorado, three years of experience teaching or counseling children who are blind / visually impaired, experience in an administrative position or demonstrated leadership, proficiency in American Sign Language, and braille awareness.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of current standards-based educational and behavioral practices, ability to use technology effectively, ability to establish high standards for students, effective communication skills, positive interpersonal skills, and the ability to work cooperatively in a team setting.
The position is full-time, scheduled to work the standard number of days in the academic year, with the annual base salary established based on education and experience. The work is performed in a typical school office environment, involving sedentary to light physical activity, with additional physical demands at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
