Patient Care Technician - Float Team

Meduflex is the inpatient Float Pool at MUSC. Our primary focus is coverage for callouts and extended leaves of absence. As a Patient Care Technician on the Meduflex Team, you will potentially float to a different inpatient unit each shift at one of our four locations downtown : University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, the Institute of Psychiatry, and Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital.

The Patient Care Tech reports to the Nurse Manager. Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

Patient Care Technician I : High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Patient Care Technician II : 24 hours / week or greater and ONE of the following requirements must be met :

• Associate or Bachelor's degree
• 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
• Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
• Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
• Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution

Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift / lower objects 50 lbs. from / to floor from / to 36 inches unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include : To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.

Ability to maintain 20 / 40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance / relationship between objects; depth perception.
