Job Summary
Research Assistant II (Kelp Forest Remote Sensing)
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for a Research Assistant II to join the Bell Lab in the Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering (AOPE) Department.
This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position and is eligible for full benefits. The initial appointment will be for 12 months, and continuance will be determined by performance and available funding.
There are opportunities for advancement.
The project will use established remote sensing methods to measure kelp canopy on global scales. Research will be focused on the use of novel land masking algorithms and manual validation with high resolution imagery, assessment of remote sensing products in relation to features on high resolution imagery.
The ideal candidate will maintain detailed records, organize all data products, and draft material for reports and scientific publications.

Essential Functions
- Experience with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.)
- Work well in a large interdisciplinary group
- Experience with coding languages (Matlab, R, Python)

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field (geography, marine biology, oceanography, earth science, remote sensing), or Bachelor's degree in non-related field plus two years' related experience, or Associate's degree in related field plus three years' related experience, or High School diploma or equivalent plus five years' related experience.
