Group Rating Analyst

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Underwriting team and has a new opportunity for a Group Rating Analyst. This position is responsible for executing the rating and underwriting of employer groups, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established methodologies. This role supports the Team Lead, Group Rating, in production rating, quality checking, contract facilitation, and reporting. The analyst collaborates with Sales and Underwriting to provide accurate group pricing, support inquiries, and maintain organized tracking of contracts, prospects, and concessions. This position is eligible to work remotely, hybrid or onsite in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.

Compensation : $85,600 - $107,000 Exempt Grade 16

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.

What You'll Do

  • Perform production rating for self-funded and fully insured employer groups, including Administrative Services Only (ASO), Level-Funded, and Merit, groups, ensuring accuracy and adherence to rating guidelines.
  • Assist in the quality checking process for production, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Support the development and pricing of associations / AHPs, maintaining compliance with rating methodologies.
  • Train Group Rating team members and Sales staff on rating policies, methodologies, and system functionalities.
  • Complete and process Group Rating Information Tracker (GRIT) options, contracts, and related documents for enrolled and prospect groups in support of Sales.
  • Prepare and deliver prospect quotes using GRIT, ensuring alignment with corporate rating formula and underwriting standards.
  • Respond to inquiries from Sales, providing clear and accurate information regarding rating methodologies and group pricing.
  • Facilitate the organization and maintenance of self-funded group contracts.
  • Track and maintain records of prospects, contracts, concessions, and other key reporting elements, ensuring accurate documentation and accessibility.
  • What You Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in group rating, underwriting, or a related analytical role within health insurance is required.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure accuracy in rating and pricing.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to conduct quality checks and maintain consistency in rating methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively support Sales and Underwriting teams.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rating methodologies for a variety of funding arrangements, including self-funded and fully insured groups.
  • Proficiency in managing contracts, documentation, and tracking reports.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and Underwriting systems. Knowledge of health insurance underwriting principles and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Bonus if You Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting sales or broker relationships in an underwriting or pricing capacity is a plus.
  • Familiarity with different funding arrangements, including self-funded and level-funded plans, is preferred.
