Lead Engineer, Level 1, Substation Design Engineering (Hybrid Schedule) – Eversource Energy

Essential Functions

• Assigns, prioritizes, and directs work performed by Outsourced Engineering firms across the Tristate territory.
• Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system, including reliability analysis and monitoring of equipment condition.
• Responsible for the development, justification, and approval of Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects.
• Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system electrical permits and related customer notifications, are completed accurately and on time.
• Responsible for the development of conceptual engineering designs and the details, as necessary.
• Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
• Mentors and coaches other engineers, serves as a point of contact for escalations, and leads team members as required.
• Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
• Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.
• Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
• Develops standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.
• Designs interconnection of generation requests (Solar, Wind, Fossil, Nuclear, Battery) into existing brownfield substations, as well as construction of new greenfield substations through conceptual design.
• Upgrades substation equipment to allow the connection of Distributed Generated Resources (DER) to the electrical grid.
• Supports Principal Engineers and Management in preparation of corporate testimony and written responses for rate cases and other regulatory proceedings.
• Supports Principal Engineers and Management to present project alternatives and scope details during Solution Design Committee (SDC) and EPAC meetings.
• Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight and independently manages project schedules and interfaces; applies fundamental engineering concepts and practices; proficient in technical and analytical competencies for increasing complexity.
• Expected to assist with storm duty and any other major events.

Technical Knowledge / Skill / Education / Licenses / Certifications :

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) required.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of Substation Engineering or related electric utility experience is required.
