Dow Jones Newswires is seeking a dynamic, fast and ambitious reporter to cover economics, the Fed and government policy in Washington, DC. This is an exciting opportunity to write market-leading breaking news for Dow Jones, the global authority in business journalism and publisher of The Wall Street Journal.
The Newswires is the real-time financial news service of The Wall Street Journal, covering business, economics, finance and markets for an audience of financial traders, fund managers, analysts and wealth advisors, among other professional financial subscribers. A key focus is low-latency news about the world’s interest-rate policy setters.
To bolster our coverage of the Federal Reserve and the ecosystem of economic data disclosure that informs its rate setters, Newswires is seeking a reporter to write breaking news headlines, stories and continually support our real-time coverage of Federal Reserve policy decisions. You will help monitor public appearances of the Federal Reserve regional presidents and as needed, flex into economic policy coverage that impacts everyday American life. You will also write headlines and stories about U.S. economic data points such as monthly jobless claims, the Beige Book, durable goods, Conference Board consumer confidence, manufacturing and production numbers.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player, working closely with our existing team of economic reporters based in New York, the Newswires’ global economic and central bank reporting teams across Europe and Asia and The Wall Street Journal’s economic reporters and editors in D.C. and New York.
Amid Washington’s super-competitive news cycle, this reporter will stay on top of the fast-paced policy pronouncements of the government and related economic-focused agencies. The reporter will also monitor and source the many economic-focused committees in Congress, staying on top of legislative and regulatory currents crucial to our professional audience. The reporter must be able to write smart, bite-sized snippets on relevant market reactions in a timely manner.
Accuracy, speed, excellent news judgment and a close eye for detail are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume news environment where teamwork and communication skills will be hugely important.
Experience writing about economic issues is a plus, but not a requirement. A successful candidate needs a broad-based understanding of the economy or covering economic indicators.

Pay Range : $75,000 - $85,000
