Senior Manager, Animal Relocation Performance & Engagement

In this exciting role, the Senior Manager, Animal Relocation Performance and Engagement will lead and support a team of hard-working and dedicated relocation professionals, along with a flex workforce, and will provide all programmatic support for the team. This is a great opportunity for an organized and resourceful individual to have a direct impact on our mission by ensuring the safe, efficient and humane transport of animals nationwide.

The ASPCA's Relocation department is tasked with providing effective, lifesaving animal relocation and transport. Using the theories of supply and demand, relocation saves lives by transporting animals from under-resourced shelters in areas of oversupply where the chance of adoption is slim, to shelters where the chances of adoption are greater.

Senior Manager, Animal Relocation Performance & Engagement reports directly to the Director, Animal Relocation Performance & Engagement and has 4 direct reports

This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all eligible candidates based within the United States. While remote, this role requires availability to work with staff across all time zones, with a majority of the work taking place in the Eastern time zone. Flexibility is key as working hours will often include weekends and evenings and the position requires some travel. Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% annually, as needed.

Compensation : The target hiring range is based on where the employee works, which for remote roles is the employee's primary location of residence, and its respective cost of labor. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.

Zone 1 : $76,000-$81,000 annually

Zone 2 : $84,000-$89,000 annually

Zone 3 : $93,000-$98,000 annually

Responsibilities : Responsibility buckets are listed in general order of importance, and include but are not limited to :

  • Coach and provide leadership, direction, motivation, and supervision of direct reports and flex workforce, ensuring we develop, reward and retain staff members
  • Develop and engage direct reports through regular interaction and discussion of progress towards individual, departmental and organizational goals, ASPCA behavioral competencies and core values
  • Model and provide an environment that supports and expects productive engagement and communication; with each other, internal and external partners and stakeholders
  • In collaboration with the Director, manage and provide oversight of staff and flex workforce drivers, including on-boarding, training, motivating, and resolving conflicts, ensuring adherence to all guidelines and SOPs related to the safe and humane transport of animals
  • Embody feedback as a key tool of coaching and team development, seeking opportunities to share feedback and encourage it in others; Track department and individual performance; resolve and elevate challenges as they arise, give and receive timely, productive and relevant feedback and celebrate successes
  • Lead with care and concern for the safety and well-being of self, animals and others, especially during stressful situations
  • Coordinate with Extended Workforce and employer of record to gather information for leadership regarding employment, management and performance of flex workforce
  • Lead established hiring committee for flex workforce and provide candidate screening and preparation, hiring recommendations, onboarding and support
  • Lead the continuing development of a healthy and balanced working environment for self and team using communication, flexibility and support, by strategically prioritizing and completing work projects and tasks
  • Identify current and future training and growth opportunities for direct reports and engage direct reports in proactive and long-term career pathway discussions for high-performing individuals within the Relocation and Placement team
  • Conduct feedback sessions and annual performance reviews; focus on developing team members' interpersonal, communication and time management skills and role specific skills with a goal of elevating performance through active, actionable feedback
  • Oversee updated project information utilizing selected data collection processes; research, provide metrics and prepare materials for scheduled and impromptu reports utilizing existing framework and prescribed data platforms for communication with internal and external partners
  • Coordinating with leadership, the Senior Manager will plan and coordinate work to support ASPCA teams across departments as requested
  • Maintain positive relationships and establish efficient methods of communication with relevant vendors and internal stakeholders (People Team, Finance, Procurement and Real Estate and Facilities)
  • Design and schedule regular, professional communication with program staff and team members to obtain feedback or ideas for improvement
  • Partner with the Directors, Senior Managers and Managers to create, maintain and update all relevant Standard Operating Procedures and training materials
  • Working with the Manager, Resources and Engagement to oversee the incident report process
  • Participate in purchasing, tracking and maintenance of program assets and supplies, including ordering and implementing updated technology for the relocation team
  • Engage in regular, professional communication with program staff and team members to obtain feedback regarding program growth and opportunity
  • Support the Director's work with partners, staff and contractors to create and implement action plans
  • Promote ASPCA tools and resources to partner organizations and internal staff to expand national relocation efforts
  • Keep all internal and external participants informed, motivated and engaged
  • Participate in planning celebrations when milestones toward goals are reached
  • Support the department's work with internal and external committees and groups to advance the work of animal welfare and the ASPCA
  • Learn and demonstrate proficiency in scheduling and route planning systems to provide support for logistics and drive teams while they are on the road, even after normal working hours, in the event of an issue or problem, such as inclement weather conditions
  • Periodically accompany or meet program drivers on assignment in the field to provide evaluation, coaching and training regarding individual and program standards, performance and processes
  • Develop and maintain a solid knowledge of safety requirements for animal transport and handling by ground and air including knowledge of OSHA requirements
  • Support the department's work with internal and external committees and groups to advance the work of animal welfare and the ASPCA
  • Qualifications : Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and be responsive to requests. Ability to work within the Eastern time zone.
