Position Summary

The Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for planning, permitting, and designing land development, utility systems, roadways, and other infrastructure components for government, institutional, commercial, airports, and transportation-related projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with the project team on all aspects of projects; project set-up, drafting, design, quality review and quality assurance, project coordination / organization, etc.
• Prepare and design improvement plans for a wide range of projects.
• Prepare, and modify construction documents, reports, specifications, and designs for the project.
• Analyze maps, reports, drawings, as-builts, and test results for the design projects.
• Assist with post-design construction support services to respond to RFI’s, submittal reviews, as-built preparation, and field observations.
• Work alongside office staff and management to successfully complete projects within the established budgets and deadlines.
• Prepare engineering calculations required for the design of projects and coordinate the development of construction drawings.
• Develop and organize the delivery of project Plans and Specifications
• Consult with other engineers, architects, landscape architects, environmental scientists, and other project consultants and stakeholders.
• Design and Permit Civil Construction Projects, including the design and permitting for Stormwater Management and Erosion & Sediment Control.
• Mentor junior engineers and CAD operations

The incumbent in this position can typically expect to sit and use his / her hands to handle and feel for more than 2 / 3 of the day. He / she can expect to stand or walk for more than 1 / 3 of the day. Talking and listening are also expected for more than 2 / 3 of the day. The ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, or reach with arms will be needed for less than 1 / 3 of the day.

This position requires that the incumbent be able to lift items up to 10 pounds on an infrequent basis.

The incumbent in this position should have clear vision at 20 inches or less. He / she should be able to view various reports and forms as well as information displayed on a computer monitor and have the ability to distinguish between different colors. Depth perception, peripheral vision, the ability to focus, and the ability to see for a distance are also necessary.
