Location

Our campus is located at 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118.

Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses.

Job Summary

This is an entry-level position providing grounds keeping and landscape maintenance support for university facilities. Employee performs a variety of duties concerning the care for campus grounds including mowing lawns, trimming trees and bushes, watering flowers and shrubbery, and general grounds upkeep duties. Employee walks assigned areas of the campus, collecting and removing trash from campus grounds. Employee learns to operate grounds keeping and maintenance equipment. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as planting trees, flowers, and bushes, raking and bagging leaves. Duties may also include spraying lawns, shrubs, and trees with herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a supervisor. Employee demonstrates and understanding of and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

Basic Grounds Maintenance Responsible for inspecting and maintaining campus grounds and grounds keeping equipment. Responsible for mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, blowing, and trash removal on UWG campus properties. Responsible for completing and maintaining training and certification required within the department and University.

Supervision and Inventory Management Must be able to detect, identify, and report unsatisfactory areas to staff members within this position's work group. This position will perform inventory control of supplies and equipment. Responsible for reporting time and other data to their supervisor to be entered into a computerized work management system. Must perform monthly daily inspections and perform minor maintenance on grounds equipment.

Campus Knowledge Responsible for becoming familiar with all campus properties and covering landscape maintenance tasks when an assigned groundskeeper is absent from work. May be instructed to work outside of the usual landscape area assigned.

Grounds Special Projects Responsible for special project work such as pressure washing, tree trimming, tree and plant installation or removal, storm cleanup, snow and ice removal, etc.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

High School Diploma / GED.

Required Experience

A valid driver's license is required. Position requires a pre-employment drug test. One-year working experience in groundskeeping. Moderate to heavy physical activity and ability to handle objects up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED.

Preferred Experience

Pesticide Applicators license is preferred. One year supervisory or lead work experience.

Proposed Salary

$15.74 per hour. Paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Physical Requirements :

Atmospheric Conditions - Conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as gas, fumes, odors, dust, mites, gases, or poor ventilation. Hazards - Include a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current or exposure to chemicals. Lifting up to 20lbs or greater Outdoor Environment - Work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.
