Overview
Lead Development Engineer role at Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company (EBAD).
Responsibilities
- The lead development engineer (LDE) is the technical lead on internal and external projects and is responsible for leading and mentoring other Development Engineering on all technical and schedule aspects of the project / product from concept through development, qualification and production.
- Ensuring technical adherence to project and system requirements.
- Providing technical expertise to architect and develop high-quality, verifiable requirements.
- Negotiation and implementation of EBAD standard tailoring for governing specifications.
- Deriving system, sub-system, and component requirements, along with the appropriate team members, to ensure the design solution meets or exceeds all customer requirements.
- Ensuring all team-identified risks are captured in the risk management tool and that a robust risk mitigation plan is established.
- Identifying critical interfaces / boundaries and interface verification plan.
- Facilitating requirements and risk collaboration across functions.
- Mentoring team DEs through product performance requirements and development process.
- Ensuring all stakeholders (PM, DE, PCE) are aligned on technical scope.
- Supporting and / or performing technical analysis to substantiate team design decisions.
- Technical product line ownership including knowledge management & improvement initiatives.
- Identifying, justifying, and overseeing execution or product line IRAD / OpEx effort.
- Assuming Project Chief Engineer roles as assigned.
- Leading failure investigations and providing engineering support for product line production issues.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have a BS / MS in an engineering discipline and experience in project, design or related engineering experience. Mechanical and / or Aerospace are the preferred engineering disciplines.

Proven leadership of technical teamsStrong time and task management skillsAbility to apply customer requirements and government / military specifications to designDemonstrated experience generating 3D models & 2D drawings, SolidWorks preferredCapable of interpreting GD&T, understanding of how it affects part manufacturing, inspection, and costStrong written, verbal and presentation skills for interaction with various levels of management and customersDemonstrated competency in problem solving and root cause analysisMust have or be able to obtain a U.S Department of Defense (DoD) security clearanceCompetent with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPointPreferred Skills
