Hospital / Outpatient Biller
Job Summary :
The Hospital / Outpatient Biller is responsible for preparing, submitting, and following up on claims to insurance companies to ensure the hospital receives accurate and timely reimbursement for services rendered. This role requires attention to detail, knowledge of billing procedures, and familiarity with insurance guidelines, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
Key Responsibilities :
- Review and process patient accounts for billing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payer requirements.
- Submit insurance claims electronically and / or via paper, as necessary.
- Verify patient insurance information and coverage.
- Resolve claim denials, rejections, and discrepancies by researching and appealing claims.
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and hospital departments to resolve billing issues.
- Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts.
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on unpaid claims.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of current coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) and billing guidelines.
- Assist in audits and reporting as needed.
Generate and review aging reports to prioritize collection follow-up.
Qualifications
Qualifications :
Education : High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or billing certification preferred.Experience : 3-5 years of hospital or medical billing experience preferred.CPC : Preferred not required.Hospice experience : Preferred but not required.Skills :Knowledge of insurance billing guidelines (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial)Familiarity with EHR and billing software (e.g., NDOC / HBS)Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skillsGood communication and customer service skillsKnowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 coding, and modifier usageExcellent attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to handle high claim volumes and meet deadlinesWorking Conditions :
