Position description
The University of California, Irvine is seeking a Project Scientist to work in the HABLA Lab in the School of Education. Salary and rank within the Project Scientist series is commensurate with experience. The appointment is for one year, with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. Anticipated start date is January 1, 2026.
Responsibilities : Responsibilities include engaging in research studies involving identification of developmental language disorder and / or reading difficulties across two grant-funded projects. Responsibilities involve organizing the project, planning and preparing for data collection, participating in data collection, overseeing data entry and coding of various data types. For the TELL project, they will recruit practicing speech-language pathologists to the study and work closely with them to gain insights about their bilingual practices and implementation of the developing instrument. This may include holding workshops and focus groups around bilingual assessment. For the A2i study, responsibilities will focus on analyzing data from the database and publishing and presenting findings with the research team. Additionally, the role involves training and mentoring undergraduate or research assistants, assigning tasks to them and overseeing and supporting their work, supporting other project activities such as dissemination efforts, and collaborating with Co-PIs at other higher education institutions.
Requirements : Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Communication Science and Disorders or a related field. Ideally, the candidate will hold ASHA certification as a speech-language pathologist. They should have expertise in language and literacy development and assessment with a focus on linguistic diversity. Prior experience in research including data analysis, evaluation of qualitative and quantitative data, and knowledge of SLP clinical practices in school settings is desirable.
