The Baker / Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing and baking a variety of breads, desserts, and pastries in accordance with established recipes and quality standards. This position requires attention to detail, creativity, and strong time management skills to ensure products are fresh, consistent, and visually appealing. The Baker / Pastry Cook works as part of the kitchen team to maintain cleanliness, organization, and efficiency within the pastry or bakery department.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and bake breads, pastries, cakes, cookies, and desserts according to recipes and production schedules.
Measure, mix, and prepare ingredients with precision to ensure consistent quality.
Operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, ovens, proofers, and scales safely and efficiently.
Maintain proper food safety and sanitation standards (clean workstations, proper food storage, and temperature control).
Assist with decorating desserts and finishing baked goods for display and service.
Monitor product quality and freshness; rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
Manage daily prep lists and communicate product needs to supervisors or chefs.
Assist with inventory control and waste management.
Maintain a clean and organized workstation at all times.
Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service and product availability.
Qualifications & Skills
Prior experience in baking or pastry (professional kitchen or bakery preferred).
Knowledge of baking techniques, dough fermentation, and pastry production.
Ability to follow recipes and adjust measurements accurately.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays if required.
Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards.
Creativity and attention to detail in presentation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
