About the Role
Senior Estimator to support our Stamford operations at STO Building Group . The role develops, creates, and prepares construction cost estimates for a diverse set of projects, supporting the project team with updated cost information throughout the pre‑construction phase. The position requires involvement in several projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Review plans and architectural drawings.
- Prepare quantity take‑offs for assigned projects.
- Identify items omitted from drawings and ensure appropriate accounting in the estimate package.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders.
- Solicit subcontractor bids for projects totaling $100–$150 million per year.
- Obtain 3–5 bids for each trade and supplier group.
- Review and analyze bids for conformance to specifications, price, material quality, insurance, wages, and related items.
- Discuss and resolve any questions with subcontractors.
- Follow approved estimating practices and ensure most complete estimates that meet financial objectives.
- Maintain current information on construction code trends and changes.
- Utilize appropriate software to calculate, record, and track estimates.
- Attend client meetings to answer questions and resolve pricing issues, ensuring client satisfaction.
- Perform change‑order pricing, site visits, bid delivery, and collaborate with teams on specific bids.
- Determine material and labor requirements, preparing itemized lists and computing cost factors used for planning, organizing, scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and ensuring cost effectiveness.
- Conduct special studies to develop standard hour and cost data or effect cost reductions, consulting with clients, vendors, or other individuals to formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Organize and manage a centralized cost‑estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating.
- Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs, identify discrepancies, and provide improvement recommendations to reduce future differences.
- Identify cost trends to assist management in cost‑reduction and process‑improvement efforts.
Qualifications
BS or BA required; preferred construction, management, engineering, or architecture.15+ years of experience in estimating, construction engineering, project engineering, or related general‑contractor estimating and purchasing.Excellent computer skills (MS Office / Excel) and strong budgeting, purchasing, and organizational abilities.Demonstrates honesty, accountability, and reliability, earning and maintaining trust.Compensation
Salary range : $120,000–$180,000. Eligible for discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
