This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Commissioning Engineer - Renewable Energy (Traveler) in the United States .
This role is designed for a technically skilled and adaptable engineer who thrives in dynamic, field-based environments. The Commissioning Engineer will lead and oversee commissioning activities for large-scale renewable energy projects, working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution. This position involves extensive travel across the continental U.S., providing opportunities to manage complex solar and substation commissioning tasks, troubleshoot electrical systems, and contribute to plant optimization. The role also includes mentorship, reporting, and process improvement responsibilities, all within a fast-paced, collaborative environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Accountabilities
- Lead and oversee commissioning activities for solar fields and substations, ensuring alignment with project schedules, best practices, and minimum standards.
- Coordinate and influence multiple stakeholders, including preconstruction / construction teams, utilities, OEM vendors, and quality / safety teams.
- Manage commissioning of equipment such as inverters, trackers, transformers, meteorological stations, performance instruments, SCADA systems, and point-of-interconnect.
- Develop, review, and maintain commissioning plans, QA / QC documentation, and performance test schedules.
- Provide technical guidance for AC / DC troubleshooting, fiber verification, SCADA / HMI support, inverter commissioning, and high / medium voltage operations.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and studies, including load flow, reactive power capability, short circuit, relay coordination, and arc flash.
- Support project interconnection processes, including utility coordination and interconnection studies.
- Assist in performance guarantee management, warranty support, change order pricing, and subcontract scope reviews.
- Produce high-level project status reports and translate technical issues into actionable insights for clients and management.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of relevant commissioning or field engineering experience.NFPA 70E & OSHA 30 Certification required.Solid understanding of construction principles, PV plant performance, and renewable energy project execution.Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and calculations.Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills.Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication abilities.Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently in remote field conditions, and lead project teams effectively.Knowledge of PV construction, substation commissioning, and performance analysis.Proven ability to develop and manage budgets and schedules in challenging environments.Benefits
