Job description

Hygiene Specialist Pt

Regular hours of work : M-Th, 7 : 30 a.m. 2 : 45 p.m. (6.75 hours / day - 27.5 hours per week) on the 9-month school calendar

Immediate supervisor : Student Services Supervisor

Department : Forest Rose School

Specifications : This is entry-level work assisting an instructor and instructor assistant in the training and personal care of individuals who have developmental disabilities. An employee in this classification will receive direction from an instructor or instructor assistant. As an employee of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the job incumbent shall comply with all Board policies at all times, and shall demonstrate respect for, support the dignity of and observe the rights of all individuals served by the agency.

Duties

75% Assists in the programming as outlined on Individualized Education Programs and as directed by the classroom instructor, instructor assistant or supervisor, including the following duties :

  • Assist individuals to maintain cleanliness and ensure safety while in the changing room, locker room, bathroom and lunchroom.
  • Follow individualized procedures to meet the needs of each person such as meal preparation, bathroom schedule, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of bowel movements, incontinence, etc.
  • Maintain accurate account of clothing available and clothing used.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies and report to appropriate staff when low.
  • Use and maintain lifts properly
  • Monitor restrooms at appropriate times
  • Practice "Universal Precautions" (i.e. wear vinyl gloves) according to required training procedures.
  • Report any unusual occurrences pertaining to injury, behavior, etc. to appropriate staff.
  • Communicates with team, provides positive interaction with clients.
  • Performs other school duties as necessary.

10% Performs related duties as directed by classroom instructor and / or administration (such as assisting with lunch and changing clothes for pool).

5% Assists in maintaining discipline in the school cafeteria, school grounds and on excursions in the community, in accordance with the manner instituted by the classroom instructor and the policies and procedures of the program. Mannerisms shall be conducive to learning and free of health and safety hazards.

3% Maintains professional ethics in keeping with the confidentiality of information and material in which he / she will come in contact.

2% Assists in keeping student data, as directed.

2% Maintains a cooperative relationship with co-workers in order to best facilitate and implement the Individualized Education Program.

1% Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings to enhance professional growth as permitted and / or requested by the administration.

1% Relates program philosophy, procedures and goals to the general public in a positive manner.

1% Complies, as necessary, with Safety Rules established for the purpose of fulfilling compliance with the Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, Rules, or Orders, through the utilization of protective equipment and decontamination techniques.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with additional training as appropriate.
  • Educational Aide certification from Ohio Department of Education.
  • Must be physically capable to lift, carry, and move enrollees (up to 50 pounds) according to in-service training.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Good communication skills, dependable, flexible.
  • Display a willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to tolerate up to one hour in a therapy pool with temperatures of 92 94 F (doctor's release required).
  • Supplemental Information

    FLSA : Non-Exempt from overtime, hourly position eligible for overtime for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week.

    Probationary Period : One calendar year.

    Status : Classified Employee

    Essential Functions :

    1. Follows instructions.

    2. Complies with applicable laws, regulations and policies, procedures and professional / ethical standards.

    3. Participates in conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings and serves on committees as requested.

    4. Communicates with enrollees, their families and staff both verbally and in writing.

    5. Lifts, carries and moves enrollees, equipment and supplies (up to 50 pounds).

    6. Maintains required certificates.

    7. Performs food preparation, food storage and sanitation tasks.

    8. Maintains a safe and healthy environment.

    9. Ensures accurate documentation of all activities and information.

    10. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

    11. Complies with Safety Rules established for the purpose of fulfilling compliance with Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, Rules, or Orders, through the utilization of protective equipment and decontamination techniques.

    12. Maintains current certifications in CPR and First Aid.

    13. Maintains / follows policies on confidentiality.

    14. Acts in the best interest of the FCBDD.

    15. Complies with Individual Bill of Rights.
