Underwater Navigation Electronics Engineer

As an Underwater Navigation Electronics Engineer , you will play a crucial role in safely navigating submarines across the mysterious depths of the ocean. Your expertise in electronics will ensure that our cutting-edge systems work seamlessly together, guiding our submarines to their destinations with pinpoint accuracy.

Your Responsibilities Will Include :

• Maintaining, repairing, calibrating, tuning, and adjusting navigation equipment.
• Operating, monitoring, and maintaining radar, gyrocompass, inertial navigation, and global positioning systems.
• Using advanced equipment to detect, identify, and track maritime vessels.
• Maintaining accurate navigation data and developing effective navigation plans.
• Conducting preventive maintenance on interior communications circuitry.
• Operating atmosphere monitoring equipment and ship control subsystems.
• Utilizing hand tools and portable power tools safely and efficiently.
• Performing watch and lookout duties as necessary.

Work Environment : You will primarily work aboard submarines in a clean, controlled environment, and also in clean lab or shop settings while on shore.

Training & Advancement : After completing initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (Boot Camp), you will undergo specialized training, including :

Post-Service Opportunities : Your military training and experience can provide valuable skills and credentials for careers in fields such as electrical engineering and telecommunications in the civilian sector.

Education Opportunities : Gain credit hours toward a bachelor’s or associate degree through the American Council on Education. You can also utilize the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance, along with the Post-9 / 11 GI Bill for further education.

Qualifications : A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with U.S. citizenship and eligibility for security clearance. You should possess strong arithmetic, writing, and speaking skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to perform detailed work while keeping accurate records. Physical attributes such as good manual dexterity and strength are also important, along with a willingness to serve aboard submarines.
