Tax Senior Manager, Core Tax Services – Corporate / ASC 740
The Core Tax Services (CTS) Senior Manager – ASC 740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while serving as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 issues. The role involves applying expertise to understand potential tax issues, recognize and communicate risks, and keep clients informed of changes in tax policy. In addition, the Senior Manager will participate in marketing, networking, and business development within the firm’s areas of specialization and may provide written tax advice to clients.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
- Ensure clients comply with all authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Conduct top‑level review of tax returns and resolve all client tax issues, involving specialists when appropriate.
- Communicate with client and Assurance teams about findings in tax accrual reviews.
- Plan and review tax processes, including budgeting, staffing, monitoring engagement progress, timely billing, and collection of accounts receivable.
- Manage client relationships and provide timely advice.
Research
Identify and frame research needs, report analysis concisely, and develop research methodology for complex ASC 740 issues.Train managers and staff in research skills and frame issues for effective analysis.ASC 740 Tax Accruals
Apply firm policies and the Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding ASC 740 proactively.Explain ASC 740 components and uncertain tax positions to clients; discuss complexities with Assurance teams.Plan and review tax accruals, including budgeting and scope, and review prepared workpapers.Utilize Specialized Tax Services (STS) as needed.Tax Consulting
Develop, recommend, and implement methods that maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes.Consider CTS and STS consulting specialties; develop work plans for ongoing projects.Serve as a technical resource and assist with exam support; delegate projects effectively.Tax Specialization
Develop in‑depth knowledge of one or more tax areas (e.g., corporate, state and local, international, transfer pricing, etc.).Organize and conduct internal CPE training sessions; mentor staff on ASC 740.Strategy Development
Introduce and develop new ideas to improve client, firm, or personnel positions.Make continuous improvement suggestions and lead marketing campaigns when applicable.Present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.Other duties as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities
Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects.Review work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide feedback.Train associates and seniors on current software tools.Act as a career advisor and schedule workload for team members.Provide verbal and written performance feedback.Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation – required.Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation – preferred.Experience
8 + years of prior experience – required.Experience managing ASC 740 computations for both private and public clients – required.Prior supervisory experience – required.Multinational client experience – preferred.License / Certifications
CPA, Attorney (admitted in a U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (or equivalent) – required.Software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat – preferred.Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA; familiarity with compliance software (GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, etc.) – preferred.Other Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Superior verbal and written communication skills.Effective delegation of work.Strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills.Team player and capable of managing a team of tax professionals.Ability to compose written tax advice and maintain client relationships.Executive presence; acts as primary client contact for presentation of issues and resolutions.Salary Range
