Job Summary

The Information Technology Programming Bootcamp program is seeking a Student Assistant ¿ Peer Mentor to provide mentorship, support program operations, and enhance participant learning experiences. The peer mentor will serve as a guide and role model for bootcamp participants, fostering a collaborative and engaging learning environment beyond the Bootcamp.

Responsibilities

  • Mentorship & Academic Support : Provide guidance and encouragement to bootcamp participants, assisting them in understanding programming concepts, improving problem-solving skills, and applying technical knowledge.
  • Peer Engagement & Community Building : Promote a collaborative learning culture by encouraging teamwork, peer-to-peer learning, and professional networking among participants.
  • Program Assistance : Support bootcamp operations by attending meetings, helping with logistics, and facilitating workshops or study sessions as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as an Information Technology major
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Georgia Gwinnett College each semester (including summer semester).
  • Students must be available during designated Boot Camp sessions and semesters.
  • Maximum commitment of 20 mentoring hours per semester (excluding Logistics and planning Meetings).
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
  • Must be in good conduct standing with the Office of Student Integrity and maintain good conduct for the duration of employment.
  • Must have achieved a minimum grade of B in the following courses :
  • Programming Fundamentals (ITEC 2140)
  • Intermediate Programming (ITEC 2150)
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a degree in a technology- or science-related discipline.
  • Previous tutoring or mentoring experience, preferably in a programming or technology-related field.
  • Applicants with advanced programming coursework or equivalent experience, particularly those who have earned at least a ¿B¿ grade in Advanced Programming (ITEC 3150), will have opportunities to work with higher-level boot camp participants.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and technical skills to effectively engage participants.
