The Good Life MedStaff is seeking a travel Occupational Therapist for a travel job in Bakersfield, California.

The OT candidate must have previous Schools-Based therapy experience because they need to hit the ground running from Day 1 and they must be able to work independently. Ideally we'd want this candidate for a 26-week rotation, but we'd certainly take 13 weeks. Please send any interested candidates my way and I will make sure they get interviewed asap. 8 hour day shift for 40 hours / week, but obviously hours aren't guaranteed on weeks with a holiday as school is out.

Job Summary :
The School OT caseload is comprised of school age children with a variety of diagnoses. The position requires the therapist to complete comprehensive assessments and provide intervention in person and / or remotely at multiple school sites in Bakersfield. They are responsible for providing skilled therapy to students in compliance with California licensing standards and within the scope of clinical skills required for the client population being treated and as determined by client age, diagnosis and IEP (individualized Educational Plan). The School OT performs the duties of assessment, care planning, treatment, student / staff / family training, discharge and transition planning as based on client age and diagnosis and IEP Team decisions within occupational therapy clinical practice standards. The School OT is responsible for providing supervision of COTAs, aides, and / or student interns. The School OT reports directly to the Lead School OT, assists in maintaining efficiency, understands and complies with the California Occupational Therapy Practice Act, the AOTA Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy, the AOTA Code of Ethics, and the AOTA Scope of Practice.
Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Conducts assessments of students to determine eligibility for educationally-related occupational therapy services – Uses appropriate, and age specific tests and procedures - Involves school staff / family / caregivers.
2. Attends and participates in Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) Team meetings and makes recommendations for the IEP as appropriate - Develops present levels of function and IEP goals and objectives in conjunction with the IEP Team.
3. Plans and schedules appropriate educationally-related occupational therapy programs; monitors student progress and evaluates plans on regular basis - Implements service delivery on assigned students based on the goals, objectives, frequency and duration, and placement as determined by the IEP Team - Utilizes an approach that encourages student participation in the least restrictive environment.
4. Maintains accurate records and provides reports for use in IEP team meetings - Maintains oral and written communication with educational personnel, parents, and community agencies regarding assigned schools and students. This can include, but is not limited to assessment reports, telephone calls, treatment notes, progress notes, informal notes, and home programs.
5. Meets on a weekly basis with the COTA and discusses client progress and changes. Documents in or co-signs the client charts.
6. Provides appropriate supervision, according to the Occupational Therapy Practice Act, to COTAs and Aides.
7. Able to handle a variable and changing workload (min. of 10 students per 8 hour day worked) appropriately and maintain a positive working environment for the student and staff, and maintain quality care for the students.
8. Demonstrates appropriate and safe treatment techniques / exercises for the student. Modifies treatment technique or exercise in response to student and staff feedback and professional judgment.
9. Bills accurately and timely.
10. Provides student / family / caregiver / staff education – appropriate to student needs, diagnosis, age and IEP.
11. Participates in the selection, design and / or construction of necessary adaptive equipment and materials Essential Function?

13. Works cooperatively with educational staff to identify areas where support is needed and provides training in the therapeutic needs of student.
