Job Description
Boyd (Woburn) is seeking a Strategic Buyer, with 7 – 10 years’ experience. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, where multi- tasking is a must, then you will be a great addition to our Purchasing team. To be considered for the position, you must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral. You will have experience in a manufacturing environment working with suppliers for custom machining, mechanical fabrication, mechanical assemblies, metal distribution, and custom sheet metal.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Sourcing Leader / Mechanical Commodities.
- Responsible for supplier selection and management. This includes setting annual improvement objectives and monitoring performance.
- Responsible to manage suppliers to achieve lowest in place cost for Boyd and its customers
- Develop supply chain programs to increase inventory turns, reduce stock-outs and enable flexible response to customer demands.
- Prepare commodity strategies to reduce the supply base and manage risks
- Support the new product development engineering team by developing sources, finding new components that meet the engineering specification and negotiating price and any customer flow-downs.
- Prepare supplier agreements with key suppliers. Lead negotiations and implement projects for assigned commodities.
- Develop and maintain a list of Preferred Suppliers for each commodity. Categorize assigned suppliers as Grow, Maintain or Rationalize, and develop & implement associated plan to execute accordingly.
- Key metrics are Supplier Quality, Service (includes delivery) and Cost, wrapped with Supplier Safety and Integrity
- Maintain strong relationship with Engineering, Sales, Operations and other associated functional team leaders to develop, assist, and/or lead various project groups.
- Communicate activities effectively with suppliers and internal customers
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
- BS/BA degree (or equivalent experience); MBA and/or APICS/ISM certifications highly preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in supply chain operations (industrial/commercial) with a strong understanding, credibility, and comfort to work with front-line operations management and cross-functional teams
- Must have at least two years of experience in a buyer/planner role. Sourcing contract administration and negotiation experience highly desirable.
- Commodity experience establishing and implementing strategic plans to deliver world class sourcing of manufactured parts, preferably mechanical commodities. Experience supporting operations producing highly engineered mechanical products lines is also preferred.
- International commodity sourcing experience in China, Mexico and Europe is preferred
- History managing direct spend and establishing measureable improvements in year-over-year savings
- Strong technical and analytical skills; process driven with attention to detail
- Successful with driving results within a manufacturing organization while embracing Lean principles
- Adept with Microsoft Office software, especially Excel and PowerPoint
