Position Overview :
As part of the Global Sustainability Office, the [Assistant General Counsel (“ACG”)], reporting directly to the General Counsel, works at the intersection of human rights, corporate responsibility and environmental laws to provide legal advice, ensure compliance, and support strategic Sustainability initiatives. The [ACG] works closely with the Global Legal, Compliance and Sustainability team. The [ACG] acts as liaison with the business and functional teams, outside legal counsel, industry organizations, and regulators. The [ACG] shall be located in [Auburn Hills, Michigan].
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on corporate sustainability programs, including without limitation relating to responsible sourcing, supply chain due diligence and mapping, and human rights and related environmental risk.
- Drive the Company’s business partner due diligence, mapping and traceability initiatives (supporting the Purchasing and Sales departments).
- Leading and / or supporting strategic and tactical legal initiatives related to the Company’s commitment to respecting human rights, corporate responsibility and environmental laws.
- Draft, manage, and review legal documents, such as policies, procedures, contracts (including supply agreements and purchase orders with and codes of conduct of business partners), and reports related to sustainability and human rights.
- Conduct legal research on national and international human rights, supply chain due diligence and other sustainability law requirements.
- Handle inquiries by business partners and regulators relating to corporate sustainability programs, human rights, business partner due diligence and others, including information requests, and organize and support mock detention exercises.
- Assist in compliance investigations relating to human rights, corporate responsibility and related environmental laws.
- Serve on and support the activities of the Global Sustainability Committee and / or other committee as requested by the General Counsel.
- Lead the Global Legal Sustainability Practice Group.
- Provide advice on and otherwise support business partner risk assessments as well as the Company’s legal & compliance risk assessment.
- Participate in industry and other organizations and engage with civil society networks and stakeholders relating to Sustainability topics as requested by the General Counsel.
- Support and implement global legal functional excellence initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience :
Successfully completed legal studies at an accredited U.S. law school and admission to a bar in good standing.
At least 3 years of PQE, acquired in private practice in a law firm and / or in-house, in human rights and related sustainability matters.Fluent in English (both oral and written)Strong computer skills (word, outlook, power point, etc.Preferably, experience in managing supply chain traceability effortsSkills :
