Position Summary
The Surgical Dental Assistant supports the oral surgeon or dentist during surgical and complex dental procedures. This role involves preparing the operatory, assisting chairside during surgeries, maintaining surgical instruments, ensuring infection control, and providing compassionate care to patients before, during, and after procedures.Key Responsibilities
Prepare treatment rooms and surgical trays for procedures, ensuring all instruments and materials are sterilized and organized.
Assist the oral surgeon or dentist during procedures such as extractions, implant placements, bone grafts, and other surgical treatments.Maintain proper field isolation and suction, anticipate surgeon needs, and ensure efficient workflow.Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) and 3D scans as required.Apply knowledge of sterile technique and infection control protocols at all times.Patient CareGreet, prepare, and comfort patients before surgical procedures.
Provide pre- and post-operative instructions clearly and compassionately.Monitor patients during and after surgery for signs of discomfort or distress.Ensure accurate documentation of patient information, vital signs, and treatment details.Sterilization and MaintenanceClean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
Follow OSHA and CDC infection control standards.Maintain proper inventory of surgical supplies and materials.Administrative SupportSchedule appointments and coordinate surgical cases as needed.
Assist with charting, patient records, and insurance documentation related to surgical procedures.Support the dental team in maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment.Qualifications
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred.Certification :State Dental Assistant Certification (as required by state).
Current CPR / BLS certification.Dental Radiology and / or Surgical Assistant Certification preferred.Experience : 1-3 years of dental assisting experience, with oral surgery or implant experience preferred.Pay : $17.00-$22.00 / HR.
Schedule : 4 to 4.5 days a week. Monday-Friday (time off will vary)
