Job Description

The Phlebotomist I is responsible for performing daily phlebotomy activities accurately and on time within the In-office Phlebotomy (IOP) setting. This role involves interacting with clients, patients, and other personnel professionally and courteously, while confidently handling both forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers appropriately and treat all customers in a courteous manner.
  • Ensure all field phlebotomy specimens are collected accurately and on time.
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections to patients.
  • Reduce patient anxiety by providing a calm environment before, during, and after collection.
  • Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
  • Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the computer.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package and store specimens according to required temperature and maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
  • Maintain required records and documentation.
  • Perform basic clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and preparing mail.
  • Display courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and co-workers.
  • Ensure facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair and report necessary repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages and problems.
  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to laboratory safety precautions and procedures.
  • Familiarize with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture and blood draw techniques.
  • Experience in processing blood samples, including centrifuge and pipetting.
  • Phlebotomy certification is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience is required, with 3+ years preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in specimen collection and laboratory specimen processing.
  • Ability to perform electronic data entry and basic clerical duties.
  • Work Environment

    The position requires floating in the North Atlanta area, including Acworth, Canton, Roswell, Alpharetta, and Johns Creek. The home office is located at the new administrative office in Marietta. The candidate will receive a daily schedule based on call outs, PTO, and vacancies and must be extremely flexible. Compensation includes payment for time and mileage over the commute to the Marietta admin office if applicable.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marietta, Georgia.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $17.25 - $22.00 / hr.
