SUMMARY :
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) plays a vital role in providing urgent medical care and transporting patients during emergencies. This position is crucial in stabilizing patients and ensuring their safe transit to medical facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Respond to emergency calls, assess patients' conditions, and determine suitable medical interventions while coordinating with dispatch.
- Safely transport patients to medical facilities, constantly monitoring their condition and providing necessary care during transit.
- Administer CPR, control bleeding, manage airways, and employ other life-saving measures to stabilize patients.
- Utilize essential medical equipment, including defibrillators and oxygen delivery systems.
- Collaborate closely with paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement, and hospital staff to ensure coordinated care, accurately reporting the nature of injuries.
- Maintain precise and detailed patient care reports, documenting assessments, treatments, and patient responses.
- Ensure emergency vehicles and medical equipment are clean and ready for use.
- Interpret instructions and diagnostics, including performing weight and volume calculations.
- Lift and transport patients, often in challenging environments like extreme terrain or adverse weather conditions.
- Participate in ongoing education to stay informed about medical protocols and enhance skills.
- Maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Work in various uncontrolled and potentially hazardous environments (indoor / outdoor, inclement weather, confined spaces).Maintain physical readiness to assist in lifting / moving patients using stretchers (up to 250 lbs with partner assist), medical equipment, and gear.Walk, kneel, crawl, and climb over uneven terrain or in emergency conditions.Transport essential medical equipment (e.g., EKG monitor, ALS / med bags) without assistance.Remain calm and focused in high-stress, emotionally charged situations.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.Valid NYS Basic EMT certification.Valid NYS Driver's License.Physical capabilities to exert significant force (50 to 100 pounds occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently).PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
High School Diploma (or equivalent).Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or similar qualification.Strong knowledge of medical procedures and emergency care techniques.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Heavy Work - Requires constant walking, standing, or squatting, and the ability to move objects significantly.
