Description :
The Emergency Room department currently operates as Trauma Level 4.
It is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready facility.
Emergency interventions must be transported to a higher-level facility.
The facility includes 9 beds and 2 trauma bays.
A Fast Track area is in the process of being established.
Triage is conducted in a separate area.
Emergency room hold patients can be located throughout the emergency area.
There are designated rooms for psychiatric patients.
Security personnel are present 24 / 7 within the department.
On average, the emergency room treats approximately 35 patients daily.
The nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1 : 3 to 1 : 5.
Common patient diagnoses include abdominal pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, stroke, trauma, and various other conditions.
The patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Common intravenous drips used in the emergency room include epinephrine, propofol, antibiotics, and blood products.
The emergency room has in-house medical oversight available 24 / 7, with physicians present during shifts.
The charge nurse in the emergency room also takes on triage responsibilities but typically does not occupy a house supervisor role.
Emergency department technicians assist nurses in various tasks.
Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24 / 7 and provides necessary services such as ABGs and breathing treatments.
There are no monitor technicians on staff; registered nurses are expected to identify abnormal rhythms.
Radiology services are available in-house 24 / 7, and nurses may assist with patient transportation.
Registered nurses are expected to perform blood draws during intravenous insertions.
The scheduling is typically set up for 3 shifts per week.
Weekends are usually scheduled every third weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
No floating is required between units.
Staff may wear scrubs of any color, provided they are appropriate and well-fitting.
Unit-specific orientation consists of one 12-hour shift with a preceptor.
This position does not include a standby or call requirement.
