Job description

Utility Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated Utility Maintenance Specialist to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining essential utility systems, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in utility maintenance, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Installs and repairs water and sewer lines. Performs heavy construction for the City.

Duties

  • Repairs, replaces, and installs water lines, valves, air releases, and sewer lines. Installs and replaces old water and sewer lines. Makes water and sewer taps, installs manholes and fire hydrants and performs maintenance and repairs.
  • Operates utility / dump truck, compressor, hydraulic hammer, gopher, tapping machine, water pump, boring machine, pipe bevel machine, and other machinery.
  • Constructs buildings and performs carpentry work such as remodeling, building cabinets, fences, and offices.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required :

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver's license within 90 days).
  • Possess valid Class "A" Texas Commercial Driver's License with the endorsements of air brakes, cargo, and combination within six months of date in position.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Entry Level :

  • Ability to pass all pre-employment qualifications.
  • Little or no experience.
  • Level I :

  • Six month's experience.
  • Pass entry-level tests and or qualifications (refer to the Manual of Verification Standards).
  • Complete one of the required TEEX courses (20 hours) needed for TCEQ Licenses.
  • Level II :

  • One year experience.
  • Pass all previous levels tests and or qualifications (refer to the Manual of Verification Standards).
  • Complete one of the additional required TEEX courses (20 hours) needed for TCEQ Licenses.
  • Level III :

  • Eighteen month's experience.
  • Pass all previous levels tests and or qualifications (refer to the Manual of Verification Standards).
  • Complete two of the additional required TEEX courses (40 hours) needed for TCEQ Licenses.
  • Level IV :

  • Two plus year's experience.
  • Pass all previous levels tests and or qualifications (refer to the Manual of Verification Standards).
  • Complete two of the additional required TEEX courses (40 hours) needed for TCEQ Licenses.
